Target Flags/Icons

This article covers the three types of flags available, where they appear, and how to show, hide, or filter targets based on their flags.

Overview

Motivity automatically flags targets that may need extra attention during a session, making it easier for data collectors and clinicians to stay on top of treatment integrity in real time.

Flag Types

Skipped and Partially Exercised Target Flags/Icons

These two flags help you quickly identify targets that were recently neglected in some way, based on what happened in the previous session.

Flag/Icon What It Means
Skipped The target was skipped in the last session it was available in

Partially Exercised

Some data were collected in the previous session, but not enough to meet the minimum trial count requirement

Where these flags appear:

  • Program list — When multiple targets within a program have different flags, the most urgent flag is displayed at the program level
  • Target list — Visible when using "One at a Time" view
  • Target data collection — Visible while actively collecting data on the target

Note: Both flags are automatically removed once the minimum trial count is met in the current session, so you always have the most up-to-date picture of which targets need your attention.

Optional Target Flag

Flag/Icon What It Means

Optional

The target is marked as optional or occasional in the expected to be run setting

This flag helps you quickly identify why a target may not have a Skipped or Partially Exercised flag on it, and serves as a helpful reminder that optional/occasional targets are excluded from some session metrics.

Showing and Hiding Flags

You can control which flags are visible in your session at any time. All three flags are turned on by default and will display when applicable. When a flag is turned off, the target remains visible in the session — only the flag itself is hidden.

To turn a flag off or on:

  1. Select View in the top toolbar
  2. Under the Show Flags section, use the checkboxes to select or deselect the flags you want to show or hide

Note: These settings are sticky — they will stay applied until you manually change them.

Filtering Targets by Flag

Filtering by flag goes one step further than showing or hiding flags — it hides the targets themselves, so you can focus only on the targets that matter most in that moment. This works similarly to filtering by labels or phases.

To filter targets by flag:

  1. Select Find
  2. Under the Filter by Flag section, use the checkboxes to select which targets to show or hide

Note: Filter settings are not sticky — they will reset when you refresh the page or navigate away.

Important Notes

  • Flags are based on the previous session — Skipped and Partially Exercised flags reflect what happened the last time the target was available, not the current session
  • Flags clear automatically — Both the Skipped and Partially Exercised flags are removed as soon as the minimum trial count is met in the current session
  • Hiding a flag does not hide the target — Turning off a flag in the Show Flags settings keeps the target visible; use Filter by Flag if you want to hide targets entirely
  • Filter settings reset — Unlike Show/Hide flag settings, filter settings do not persist between sessions or page refreshes
