An indeterminate session is not working toward or away from the mastery criteria.
Commonly, indeterminate sessions occur when the set minimum opportunities are not met during a session. For example, if your criteria for mastery is 5 trials at 80% accuracy, and if only 2 data points were collected within the session, we might want to consider this an indeterminate session. You can create specific criteria for indeterminate sessions in the program builder. This is important because for each graph, within the configurations, it is possible to hide indeterminate sessions.
Basic Rules
In the program builder, under "Session Outcome" you can set basic criteria (most common). In the example below using basic settings, the session will succeed if staff collect at least 5 data points, and at least 80% are correct. By default, if the staff collects fewer than 5 trials, the session will be considered indeterminate. The data will still be available, and it will still graph (unless you deselect "indeterminate sessions" at the graph level), but a session with fewer than 5 data points will not count toward transition criteria. As seen below, in this example, the transition criteria is 3 successful sessions in a row.
Advanced Rules
In the program builder, you can set advanced rules for what is deemed an indeterminate session. The advanced rules can get complicated, but are very useful for tailoring your program to meet a variety of criteria!
