Overview
This article covers Service Locations on the provider's Employment Info page, including how Primary and Secondary locations are displayed, how to add or update locations, and how to change which location is marked Primary. Service locations can only be added or edited by an admin.
Viewing Your Service Locations
Service Locations are split into two views, so it's always clear which location is Primary and which are Secondary.
Primary Location
The Primary Service Location displays as a summary card at the top of the page, marked with a Primary badge. The card shows:
State
Office
Role
Start Date
End Date
Secondary Locations
Any Secondary locations display below the Primary card in a list, showing State, Office, Role, Start Date, End Date, and Status (Active/Inactive). If a provider has multiple locations that share the same State, Role, and dates, those are grouped together in the list.
Showing Inactive Locations
By default, only active locations are shown. To see historical or inactive locations alongside active ones, turn on the Show Inactive toggle at the top of the list.
Adding or Updating Service Locations
All changes to service locations — adding a new one, updating an existing one, or assigning a Primary for the first time — go through the Manage Locations modal. There's no inline editing or deleting directly on the list.
To add or update service locations:
Select Manage Locations.
If the provider doesn't have a Primary location yet, set one first.
Select + Add Secondary Location to add additional offices, roles, and dates as needed. You can add as many Secondary locations as needed in a single save.
For each row, fill in:
State
Location — the office dropdown supports search, or you can select All
Role
Start Date (and End Date, if applicable)
Select Save.
All rows are saved together in a single transaction, and the list refreshes immediately to reflect your changes.
Note: If you select multiple offices for a state in one row, Motivity automatically creates a separate record for each office/role/date combination — you don't need to add each one as its own row.
Save requirements: Save is blocked until every row has a State, at least one Location, a Role, and a Start Date filled in, and until exactly one location is designated as Primary.
Changing the Primary Location
Once a Primary location is saved, its fields become read-only on the summary card — you can't edit them directly. To assign a different location as Primary, use Change Primary instead.
To change the Primary location:
Select Change Primary from the banner on the Primary Location card.
Select the location you'd like to promote to Primary.
Confirm your selection.
The location you selected immediately becomes the new Primary, and the location that was previously Primary automatically moves to Secondary. The banner and list update right away — no page refresh needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I edit a Primary location's details directly from the summary card? No. Once a Primary location is saved, its fields are read-only. To assign a different location as Primary, use Change Primary.
What happens to the old Primary location after I change it? It automatically becomes a Secondary location — nothing about that record is lost, it simply moves into the Secondary list.
Is there a limit to how many Secondary locations a provider can have? No, you can add as many Secondary locations as needed in a single save through Manage Locations.
Who can add or edit service locations? Only admins can add, edit, or manage service locations for a provider.
