This article answers the most common questions about Acuity's session metrics and treatment integrity features. If you're seeing unexpected numbers or aren't sure how a metric is being calculated, you're in the right place!
"Why does my 'Prescribed Trials' count seem higher than what I actually expected?"
If no suggested dosage or session success criteria rules are set for a target, the system defaults the minimum trial count to 1 for all prescribed targets. When a session includes many active targets without explicit dosage settings, these defaults can add up quickly and make the prescribed trials count appear higher than expected.
💡 What to do: Review your targets and consider updating any that should not be held to a strict trial count to "Occasionally (naturalistic/optional)" in the Expected to Be Run setting. This will exclude them from prescribed and trial count adherence metrics.
"Why is my 'Percent of Prescribed Targets Run' not equal to 'Targets Run' divided by 'Targets Prescribed'?"
These two metrics are measuring slightly different things. The Percent of Prescribed Targets Run only counts prescribed targets that were run, while the Targets Run metric includes all targets that had data collected — both prescribed and non-prescribed. Targets marked as optional or targets added during the session are not included in the Percent of Prescribed Targets calculation but are counted in Targets Run.
💡 Example: If 9 prescribed targets were run along with 2 optional or mid-session targets, Targets Run will show 11 but Percent of Prescribed Targets Run will be calculated using only the 9 prescribed targets.
For more detail on how these metrics are calculated, see the Prescribed Metrics article.
"How do I fix a target that is showing '- - -' instead of a metric?"
The "- - -" display means the metric could not be calculated or was not applicable for that target. This occurs when a target is either:
Marked as optional (set to "Occasionally (naturalistic/optional)")
Added mid-session via a manual transition or concurrency rules
These targets are classified as Not Applicable and are intentionally excluded from trial count calculations.
"What is the difference between 'Targets Run' and 'Prescribed Targets'?"
Targets Run — Counts any target that had data collected during the session, regardless of whether it was prescribed, optional, or added mid-session
Prescribed Targets — Counts only targets that were expected to be run at the start of the session (non-optional targets that were available at session start)
For more information on what makes a target prescribed, see the Prescribed Metrics article.
"How does 'Average Program Trial Count Adherence' differ from 'Percent of Prescribed Trials Run'?"
Both metrics offer insight into treatment intensity but are calculated differently:
Percent of Prescribed Trials Run — Tracks the total number of prescribed trials collected across all targets in the session as a single percentage
Average Program Trial Count Adherence — Calculates a trial count adherence score for each prescribed program individually, then averages those scores together for a session-level score
The two metrics can give similar insights in some sessions but may differ significantly in others depending on how trials are distributed across programs. For full calculation details, see the Trial Count Adherence Metrics article.
"Why do my 'Run Per Hour' metrics look really high during my session?"
The rate (per hour) metrics are calculated using the session time that has elapsed so far. Early in a session when very little time has passed, these rates will appear higher than they will be once the full session time has elapsed. The numbers will naturally level out as the session progresses.
"Will these new metrics affect my mastery transitions?"
No — Acuity's session metrics are focused on the amount of data collected in a session, not the learner's performance on targets. Your existing success criteria and transition rules will continue to work exactly as they do now.
"I find it overwhelming to have a lot of flags on my targets. How do I turn them off?"
You can turn off flags by navigating to View in data collection and unchecking the flags you no longer wish to see. Your preferences are saved and will apply to future sessions until you change them. Keep in mind that skipped and partially run flags will also disappear automatically during a session once the target has been run to the minimum trial count.
