This article walks you through the data collection features included in Acuity. These tools are designed to help data collectors stay on track during sessions, focus on the right targets at the right time, and access helpful insights without ever having to leave the session.
Docking Session Metrics During a Session
Data collectors can now access session metrics without leaving data collection by docking the session metrics blade directly to their screen.
How to dock session metrics:
During an active session, select the View Metrics button
If you have more than one session type running, you'll see a list — select the session you want to view
The session metrics blade will dock to the right side of your screen (or open in full screen on mobile)
From there, you can pin, close, or expand the blade as needed
💡 Note: The View Metrics button is only available when a session is actively running. You can also dock session metrics directly from Timeline and Reports.
Target Flags in Data Collection
Acuity adds three types of flags to target and program cards during data collection. These flags are visual indicators designed to help data collectors quickly identify targets that need their attention.
Skipped Flag (red circle with a small exclamation point)
Indicates that a target was available but not run in the previous session. This flag is automatically removed once the minimum trial count is met for that target in the current session.
Partially Run Flag (partial circle / pac-man style)
Indicates that a target had data collected in the previous session but did not meet the minimum trial count. Like the skipped flag, it is automatically removed once the minimum trial count is met in the current session.
Optional Flag (circle with a dashed border)
Indicates that a target is set to "Occasionally (naturalistic/optional)" in the Expected to Be Run setting. This flag is automatically removed if the setting is changed.
💡 Flags appear in the upper right corner of program and target cards.
Turning Flags On or Off
Data collectors have control over which flags are displayed during a session.
How to turn flags on or off:
Select View in data collection
Locate the Show Flags section
Use the checkboxes to select which flags you want displayed on cards
💡 Note: Your flag view preferences are sticky — once you turn a flag off, it will remain off in future sessions until you change the setting again.
Filtering Targets by Flag
Data collectors can filter the targets displayed in a session based on their flag status, making it easy to focus on only the targets that need attention.
How to filter by flag:
Select Find in data collection
Scroll to the Filter by Flag section at the bottom
Use the checkboxes to show or hide targets based on their flag status
Flag filters can be used in combination with other filter options. Unlike flag view preferences, flag filters are not sticky — they reset each session.
In-App Icon Guide
A quick-reference icon guide is available directly within data collection, so staff can look up the meaning of common icons without leaving the session.
How to access the icon guide:
Select the guide icon at the top of the data collection screen to open the menu
The guide displays the 7 most common icons used in data collection — specifically those without text labels
Click anywhere outside the menu to close it
💡 The icon guide also includes a link to the full Data Collection Icons article for a complete reference.
